Formation of Lower Milford Historical Society Offers More Benefits
Since its inception in 2005, the Lower Milford Historical Society has
been an informal group that met of the Lower Milford Township building
monthly. Most endeavors were financed by individuals as needed. One of
the prime purposes was to see whether there was sufficient interest to
sustain this organization. The fact that our membership has been
growing, and that we successfully have undertaken several projects
attests to the commitment of the members to preserve the Township's
history. At the September meeting, the consensus was to formally
organize the Society into an unincorporated association. Among the
perceived benefits are:
- A formal process for maintaining leadership in the Society
- A process for fund raising that would provide tax deductions for donors
- An ability to obtain grants and corporate sponsorship for various projects
- A basis to fund projects and events that would be of interest to members and the community at large
- A better basis for establishing links with other Historical Societies
We are in the process of formally developing Articles of
Association, By-laws and getting the required tax exemptions. If you
have any suggestions about organizing, wish to run for the Board or
Leadership positions, send us an email.
History Worth Preserving
Lower Milford Township has a rich history. It has
been primarily a farming area. Because of its water resources it has
supported a number of mills, the remnants of a few still exist today.
It has a tradition of diverse religions as well as numerous schools in
the Township. Even today, it still has a number of old homes, farms,
hotels, and other historically significant features. It is a proud and
interesting history that should be preserved.
Graduation at Limeport Stadium
Southern Lehigh held their graduation at Limeport Stadium for many
years. This photo was from the 1954 graduation. We would like to
collect pictures, stories, and other items for a poster at the Township
Building as well as a DVD video we are making. Please email us if you
can donate anything. All items will be scanned and returned.

This site was started in August 2006 to present some of the Lower Milford Township's
history and to act as a central point for the activities of the
Historical Society. As the site develops, it will contain some of the
history of the Township, pictures, past and present, of some of the
unique places and people that lived in the area, and stories and
recollections of some of our residents. Check back often to see the new
additions.
As with any effort, its success depends on the people willing to
contribute to it. If you have any material relevant to the history of
the Township, please contact us. We also welcome anyone who would like to join the Society. Click Here to join.
